Craftsmanship is at the heart of new luxury accessories brand, Max V Koenig.
Designing bags of butter soft leather and nubuck, Koenig sculpts his hides by hand. By preserving the leather’s natural grain, texture and patina, and avoiding – where possible – unnecessary chemical processes, each bag is completely unique: a bespoke accessory for the twenty-first century.
Both the core and Autumn/Winter 2017 collections have an immediate clarity and a distinctive point of view. Elegant, functional shapes feature contrasting, natural leather straps and playful fringing. Clean-lined design is offset by deliciously rich colours: rich coral pink, emerald, navy and camel which all took inspiration from the French Riviera where Max’s family are from. The effect is deliberately understated, allowing the tactile fabrics and streamlined shapes to speak for themselves. These are pieces created to complement a person’s life and wardrobe rather than impose a style: practical and hardworking – and highly covetable.
Raised in Vienna to French parents, with an upbringing rich in travel and culture, Maximilian Kœnig developed an appreciation for the value of materials, the world of the arts and a passion for the bespoke/handmade via his parents. He first studied industrial and product design in Paris before switching to pursue fashion jewellery at the London College of Fashion. It was while working with leather for his final jewellery collection that he discovered the exciting possibilities of working with this inspiring medium. Self-taught in patternmaking for bags, his intrigue at construction and hands-on approach was what led him to develop his own label with an emphasis on beautiful, natural leathers and saturated colours.
