Oaxaca
[waˈxaka]
Home to over sixteen indigenous cultures including the native Zapotec and Mixtec. Oaxaca has an old tradition in craftmanship with a large variety of hand woven textiles. It is especially the beautifully crafted cloths and rugs made on the pre-Hispanic backstrap looms that triggered my interest in focusing my research in this specific region. The two main materials which are being used in the region of Oaxaca are the locally sourced cottons and wools.
